About Marnix Keller

As a young teenager I started line art drawing, obsessed with the beautiful ink pen art in 2000 AD magazine. I would rush to buy every new issue and copy all of the best pieces into notebooks.

I studied technical drawing and illustration at college and then moved into teaching 2D and 3D computer aided design using AutoCAD, Microstation and 3D Studio Max. It was teaching CAD that introduced me to coding, either to produce graphical content or linking to non-graphical data sets.

I code in Lisp, Python, VB Net, C#, Java and JavaScript. I create 3D generative art using Python in Blender and 2D generative art using either Python, Java or JavaScript in a variety of environments (Processing, p5js, CodePen etc.). I write all my code by hand, on my laptop, typically in the JavaScript language and I do not use any kind of AI input whatsoever
From time to time, my humble code unexpectedly blossoms into something beautiful.

I work by day as a freelance developer. Coding applications and integrating information from any data source to produce engaging visualisations. You can find more of my work on Twitter & Instagram.

SOLITUDE...

Solitude is where we find beauty in silence, peace in stillness, and strength in being alone.
Solitude can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it provides a much-needed respite from the noise and chaos of daily life, allowing us to connect with our inner selves and find peace. On the other hand, it can lead to feelings of loneliness, boredom, and a sense of purposelessness. But what happens when we embrace our solitude, not as a temporary escape from the world, but as a permanent way of life? What happens when we find happiness and contentment in our own company, but still continue to search for meaning in life?

For some, solitude is not a choice but a necessity. Perhaps they live in remote areas, or their work keeps them isolated for extended periods. Others choose to live a solitary life, either as a spiritual practice or as a way to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. Regardless of the reason, those who embrace solitude often find that they are able to connect with their true selves and discover their own inner peace.

When we live in solitude, we are free to pursue our passions and interests, without the constraints of societal norms or the expectations of others. We have the time and space to reflect on our lives, to contemplate our values and beliefs, and to seek a deeper understanding of our place in the world. For those who find contentment in solitude, it can be a powerful tool for personal growth and self-discovery.

However, the search for meaning is a common human experience, and it does not disappear simply because we are in solitude. Even when we have found happiness in our own company, we may still feel a longing for something more, a desire to understand our purpose in life and to make a difference in the world.

For those who live in solitude but still seek meaning, the search may take on a different form. Instead of seeking fulfillment in relationships or career achievements, they may look to nature, art, or spirituality to find a sense of purpose. They may also engage in acts of kindness or volunteer work, using their solitude as a way to connect with others and make a positive impact in the world.

The search for meaning never truly goes away. Those who embrace their solitude may find that they are better able to connect with their inner selves and discover their own inner peace. But the quest for purpose and meaning is a universal human experience, and even those who are content with their solitude may continue to search for something more. The key to finding happiness and meaning in solitude is to be true to yourself and to seek fulfillment in the things that bring you joy and purpose.

Generative Art Space

Space

 The final frontier...

I used web API's to return a list of astronauts currently in space and then used their initials to produce some colour gradients.
First name initial set the hue
Last name initial set the saturation.
Brightness goes from light to dark, spinning around the earth :-)
This artwork was generated using custom code. Perfect for any minimalists or for lovers of Space, Science and Technology.
